EAST LANSING, Mich. — Hummus Goodness, a food and beverage manufacturing company based in Birmingham, Michigan, has secured an investment from the Michigan Rise Pre-Seed Fund III.
Hummus Goodness produces premium hummus using 100 percent olive oil and lemon juice. Its products are available at major retailers across the Midwest and West, including Meijer, Natural Grocers, Fresh Thyme, Dorothy Lane Markets, Lunds & Byerlys, and Plum Market. Hummus Goodness is also stocked in more than 200 gourmet and specialty markets nationwide.
Hanady (Hannah) Awada, a first generation Lebanese American, started her hummus business in Shanghai, China, from her kitchen window. After moving to Michigan in 2018, she had no intention of restarting the business. However, after sharing her hummus at a party, encouragement from neighbors and friends inspired her to launch what is now Hummus Goodness. This led her to the Michigan State University Product Center, where she received support and guidance to successfully scale the business.
“The Hummus Goodness team stands out for crafting some of the freshest hummus on the market,” said Tommy Skinner, Director of Venture Investments at Michigan Rise. “Co-founders Hannah Awada and Lara Lozser are dedicated entrepreneurs who have grown the brand to impressive revenue since its founding in 2019, without seeking outside capital until now.”
The investment from Michigan Rise will support marketing efforts as the company expands into new markets, covers slotting fees for additional retailers, and develops new flavors and packaging.
