EAST LANSING, Mich. — SwimSmart, a Marquette, Michigan-based public safety and advanced hardtech company, has received an investment from Michigan Rise Pre-Seed Fund III to expand its real-time beach safety technology.

SwimSmart’s flagship product is a technology-packed safety station featuring automated notification lights connected directly to National Weather Service data, electronically triggered life ring cabinets and integration with emergency responders. These weather-proof, solar-powered safety towers can also serve as internet infrastructure base stations, enabling connectivity and smart beach applications, even in remote locations.

“SwimSmart’s mission is to make a discernible impact on drowning reduction,” said Calvin VanderWal, Venture Associate at Michigan Rise. “Their robust technology suite is poised to have an incredible impact on water safety. My hope is for their technology to become the new standard for water safety across the country and beyond.”

The investment is part of SwimSmart’s seed financing round, which will be used for product development to add key product features and build out the Company’s sales and support infrastructure to place stations in beaches and waterways across the country.

Michigan Rise is a wholly owned venture capital subsidiary of the Michigan State University Research Foundation, operated in partnership with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC).
